About me

Back in high school I set five goals for my life and they all happened to start with the letter M. I wanted to be a marathoner, a missionary, a minister, married and a mom. And so began my M journey. It is now mostly accomplished although I am learning over and over again that one is never really done with anything ever.

This blog is a way for me to continue this journey. Writing has always been such an important part of my life as I spent the last 36 years writing weekly sermons. I am so grateful for all those who have shared their stories and been part of mine. We never planned on staying in one place for so long but we fell in love with Duluth, Minnesota and the people of Peace United Church of Christ. The kids there always called me PK for Pastor Kathy, more letters to add to all my M’s.

I am especially grateful to my partner Tim, for his patience and his photography which fills these pages. I am also so grateful for our daughters. Their lives have been impacted by my choices in ways I can barely understand, but I have been blessed by their wisdom. For instance, when I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer our daughters were 4 and 8 years old, as I got off the phone with my doctor after finding out the results of my scans, our daughter held me and said, “Mom you’re gonna be breastless but not breathless”. I held on to those words in all the months of treatment that followed. Indeed my chest is flat but my heart is full.
